Poetry and Policy

Policy issues through poetry. Each poem begins with a photograph I took, and a moment that asked to be seen more closely.

Life in Sepia

Life in Sepia
Dr. Christina DeJesús Kishimoto
Policy Issues Through PoetryThe fog around me lifts
Like a chameleon of the river, I emerge
Riding a gentle morning wake
A tickle of fingers long gone
Walks up my spine

My rod comforts me
The mist in sepia
Draws out pastel memories
People casually pass by
Prints on my soul

Like the cuttlefish
Strangeness in me rises
No ordinary man
Conflicts left on the banks
Floating freeDissipated tears release
Taking in breadth
Words spoken in silence
Break the water's surface
At the edge of joy

Morning light rises
A moment more needed
In the shroud of peace
As the landscape becomes
Clear and unknown.
