Dr. Christina Kishimoto sits down with Dr. Alicia Thompson of Wichita Public Schools in Wichita, Kansas. After six years of leadership in the Superintendent seat and thirty-one years overall as an educator in Wichita, Dr. Thompson has retired and looks forward to continuing her equity oriented work. Alicia shares in her interview why she chose to teach and lead in the same district that she attended as a student, emphasizing the deep, respectful relationships she built with her community and her board. Her advice to new Superintendents is to develop and rely on your trusted network of friends just as she called upon her sisterhood of peer Superintendents nationally.
Alicia shares her thoughts about these divisive and difficult political times and while she worries about the current political mindset, she is hopeful about our collective power to push through and lead positively into the future.
